
Steve Abraham is the President and Founder of Wilderness Leadership & Learning, Inc. (WILL). In 2003, he made the bold decision to leave a successful law career as a trial attorney to pursue his passion for creating positive change in the lives of youth from underserved communities in the Washington, DC area. Under his leadership, WILL has become a transformative program that empowers youth to reach their full potential. Steve's dedication to this calling and cause is evident through his extensive volunteer work, commitment to ongoing education in youth development, and active participation in various community organizations.
In December 2024, Washingtonian Magazine named Steve a Washingtonian of the Year, as one of "Ten Locals Who Make Our Region an Even Better Place." At the December 13, 2024, Landon School Alumni Holiday Luncheon, Steve received the Anthony Edward Kupka Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Landon School Alumni Association.
Steve graduated from Washington & Lee University (W&L), where he served as Student Body President, and from the W&L School of Law. He serves on the boards of The Aaron Straus & Lillie Straus Foundation and The Camp Airy and Camp Louise Foundation. He previously served on the boards of the Multicultural Intern Program, the Landon School Alumni Association (where he was President from 2018 to 2020), the Washington and Lee University Alumni Association, the Decade Society, and the Straus Foundation Investment Committee.
Steve's commitment to youth development and community service has earned him several recognitions, including the Amigo of the Year Award from Bell Multicultural High School and the Making the Difference Volunteer Award from the Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy. He was a member of the Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2012 and, in October 2014, was honored as one of five recipients of the Washington, DC Scottish Rite Community Service Award. To further his understanding of youth development best practices, Steve completed the DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation’s DC BEST 30-hour Advancing Youth Development training program.

Julie was born and raised in Austin, TX. Julie brings a wealth of experience and a passion for youth development to the WILL team. With a Master of Arts in Social Integration Counseling from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology from Texas State University, Julie is deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and positive change.
Her dedication to empowering youth is evident from her extensive background with the United States Peace Corps. Serving in both Morocco, as a Youth Development Volunteer, and Indonesia, as a High School English Teach Volunteer, Julie worked to develop and implement programs that promoted leadership, life skills, and educational advancement.
As WILL Program Coordinator, Julie will assist with program facilitation, logistics, and communications, foster relationships with WILL youth, families, and partners, and support volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement.

Matt Fleming is a Portfolio Manager with Brown Advisory. He works with numerous charitable organizations and families to help them meet their financial and investment objectives. Prior to working at Brown Advisory, Matt worked at Alex. Brown Investment Management and ICI Mutual. He graduated from Virginia Tech and earned an MBA from Loyola University in Baltimore. Matt enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and biking, and, from his own children, has seen the positive impact that outdoor activities can have on youth. He looks forward to helping WILL provide its impactful programming to more DC area youth in the years ahead.
Raysa Leer-Gray is Deputy Chief Operating Officer at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). She manages the review and enhancement of institutional operational processes to drive organizational efficiency and improve productivity. While Mrs. Leer-Gray has held various roles at UDC, in her most recent prior role she served as the Associate Vice President for Financial Affairs, developing and maintaining oversight of the university's budget and financial resources. Raysa is a graduate of The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a BA in Anthropology and a BA in Spanish. She earned an MBA in Management from UDC. She is a strong supporter of experiential learning and the four pillars that provide structure and support for the WILL experience. Raysa is excited to support WILL’s work with DC area youth.
Greg Ossi is a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright in Washington, DC. Greg’s practice focuses on solving human resource problems with a particular emphasis on employee benefits and traditional labor law. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as a CPA for Ernst & Young. Greg graduated from Washington & Lee University and from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. Greg has been pro bono counsel for several metro DC area non-profits that seek to empower youth to find academic success and to give them the confidence and skills to succeed in life. Greg looks forward to serving on the WILL Board to continue supporting DC area youth and WILL’s positive impact in their lives.
John Van Etten is Managing Director and Head of U.S. Government Relations at the Managed Funds Association where he represents the alternative assets industry on a variety of policy issues. He previously worked in similar roles at JP Morgan Chase & Co. and other leading corporations and trade associations. John also worked for the U.S. House of Representatives and practiced in the financial services group at a large U.S. law firm. He is a graduate of University of California, San Diego, and the Georgetown University Law Center. John grew up in Lake Tahoe, CA, backpacking, fishing, climbing, and snowboarding. His desire to help DC youth similarly experience the benefits and lessons that come from spending time engaged in outdoor activities drew him to WILL.
Brian Pellegrini is CEO of Ecotone and Wilkinson Ecological Designs (WED), two of the East Coast’s leading ecological restoration firms that provide full-delivery services to restore streams, watersheds and coastal ecosystems. He previously was the CEO of Aspekt Solutions, a leading provider of medical physics and radiation oncology solutions in the US, the COO at Optum Advisory Services where he oversaw the firm’s healthcare consulting work, and he helped launch and build the supply chain consulting business for the Advisory Board. A veteran operations improvement and supply chain executive, Brian has a strong track record of managing change and delivering significant year-over-year results. Brian is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an active outdoor enthusiast who loves rock climbing, cycling, and triathlons. He appreciates the importance of expanding environmental and cultural awareness in today’s world and has seen the impact that WILL has on the youth it serves.
Tom Egan is the Founder and sole principal of Capital Legal Advisors PLLC, a DC-based consulting firm. Prior to establishing Capital Legal Advisors in 2024, Tom was a principal in the DC office of Baker McKenzie LLP where he practiced corporate and securities law for over 40 years while serving in a variety of leadership roles with the office and global firm. Tom is a graduate of the University of Virginia, Washington & Lee University School of Law, and the LLM program at Georgetown University Law Center. Tom is a native Washingtonian and has a lifelong appreciation of the outdoors and enjoys hiking and fishing. He believes in the benefit of augmenting traditional high school education with experiential learning and the myriad of life skills that WILL teaches its youth. Tom looks forward to helping WILL grow to provide its positive youth development programming to more youth.
